2011-09-20 the First Greek Linked Open Data Cloud has been uploaded by the Web Science Program Research Team
Following the recent establishment of the Internationalized DBpedia, which was based on the Greek Language prototype developed by the Aristotle University Research Team in the frame of the Web Science Program of the Mathematics Department, the first Greek LOD cloud has been realized as part of the overall global 2011 LOD cloud, (http://richard.cyganiak.de/2007/10/lod/) . In this way the overall informational value of the Global LOD cloud is enriched with datasets originating from Greek Open Government Data (http://geodata.gov.gr/geodata/).
Besides the DBpedia Greek core hub, (http://ckan.net/dataset/dbpedia-el) the cloud consists of a Hellenic Police, (http://ckan.net/dataset/hellenic-police) a Hellenic Fire Brigade, (http://ckan.net/dataset/hellenic-fire-brigade) and soon a Diavgeia Dataset will be added. Their informational value is combined with other foreign datasets and the first demo applications will soon provide a glimpse of the first Greek Linked Data based services. As a result the public administration services and knowledge management procedures will not only be qualitatively improved, but also the costs will be reduced. A new generation of contributions are expected to emerge either in the form of Greek Open Data or as Innovative applications and services.
